Privacy policy

MovingCost.net ("MovingCost," "we," "us") operates the calculator and mover-matching service at movingcost.net. This policy explains how we handle the personal information you share with us when you visit the site or request a moving quote.

2a. Calculator inputs

The cost calculator collects: origin, destination, home size, move date, and any add-on services you select. None of this is tied to you personally until you choose to submit a lead form.

2b. Lead form data

When you submit our lead form, we collect: full name, email address, phone number, and any optional notes you add about your move (specialty items, access constraints, etc.).

2c. Site analytics

We collect standard web-analytics data (page views, referrer, approximate location from IP, device type) using Vercel Analytics and similar tools. This data is aggregated and not used to identify individuals.

• To match you with one mover. When you submit a lead, we send your move details and contact info to a single FMCSA-licensed moving company suited to your route. The mover then contacts you directly with a binding quote.
• To send service communications. We may send you a confirmation email or SMS about your quote request and follow-ups about your specific move.
• To improve the calculator. We aggregate anonymized cost data to refine our pricing model. We do not associate aggregated data with your identity.
• To detect fraud and abuse. We use IP and device signals to detect bot submissions and duplicate fraudulent leads.

4a. Your matched mover

We share your name, email, phone, and move details with one FMCSA-licensed moving company per quote request. That mover handles the binding-quote process directly with you. We do not auction leads to multiple movers.

4b. Service vendors

We use the following third parties to operate the site: Vercel (hosting + analytics), Easyly (lead routing CRM), and may add Resend (transactional email) and Twilio (SMS) as those features go live. Each operates under its own privacy policy.

4c. What we do NOT do

We do not sell, rent, or syndicate phone numbers or email addresses to data brokers, lead aggregators, or unrelated third parties. We do not share your information with multiple movers in a bidding-war format.

We use a small number of essential cookies for site functionality (e.g., remembering your calculator inputs across the page, suppressing the exit-intent popup if you've already dismissed it). We use analytics cookies to understand how the site is used. You can disable cookies in your browser settings; core functionality (the calculator, the lead form) will still work.

We honor browser-based Do Not Track signals where technically feasible and treat the Global Privacy Control (GPC) header as a valid opt-out request from California residents.

When you submit our lead form, you consent to receive your binding quote and follow-ups via SMS and email from your matched mover and from us. This consent is specific to the move you're inquiring about.

• To opt out of SMS: reply STOP to any message you receive. We will stop texts within 24 hours.
• For SMS help: reply HELP.
• To opt out of email: click the unsubscribe link in any email, or write to hello@movingcost.net.

We retain your lead-form data for 24 months in our and our CRM partner's systems for service follow-ups, fraud prevention, and accounting. Aggregated and anonymized analytics data is retained indefinitely. You may request earlier deletion at any time (see Section 9).

California residents have the right to: know what personal information we've collected about them, delete that information, correct inaccuracies, and limit use of sensitive personal information. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. To exercise any of these rights, write to hello@movingcost.net with the subject line "CCPA Request."

If you're in the EU, UK, or another GDPR-equivalent jurisdiction, our lawful basis for processing your data is your consent (when you submit the lead form) and our legitimate interest in operating the site. You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing, port, and object to processing. Contact hello@movingcost.net with the subject line "GDPR Request." You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

The site is intended for users 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has submitted personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Our infrastructure is US-based. If you submit a lead from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States. By submitting the form, you consent to this transfer.

We use industry-standard security measures (HTTPS for all data transmission, secure secrets management for credentials, access controls on lead data). No system is impenetrable; if you become aware of a security issue, contact us at hello@movingcost.net.

We may update this policy as practices change. The "Effective" date at the top reflects the current version. Material changes will be announced via a banner on the site or by email to users with active leads.
